Relevance of Vastu to Astrology

A common question posed to a Vastu Shastri is whether a house constructed as per the Vastu guidelines would be as auspicious for the son and the grandson as it has been for the person who built that house. The answer invariably is in the negative. Then the next question arises as to whether Vastu is important or is only a fashion.

We all know that a dwelling unit whether it is a small house or a royal mansion, is built for protection and for physical, mental health and spiritual development. The happiness of the individuals depends upon the planetary periods of the individuals. Therefore, it is not necessary that a dwelling unit built by a person would be as prosperous and auspicious for his progeny.
The basic components of a dwelling unit are the building, the passage, the lighting arrangement and its location, besides its maintenance and cleanliness. The building laws impose many restrictions. The availability of land as per one's desire and requirement is also not possible in the present times. The Vastu factor stands modified due to the painting and lighting inside the house in spite of the basic structure and airy passage remaining the same. The various planets during their planetary periods create different types of impact on the outlook of persons in matters of brightness and colors. These indeed change the overall effect of the dwelling unit. Why talk of the son and the grandson, a person may find the same dwelling unit inauspicious even for himself after a few years.

It is important to have maximum benefit of the dwelling unit, which is derived through natural inflow of the sunlight and air. The provision for these basic necessities can be made if a house is facing east and its doors and windows open in the southeast, southwest and western directions. This will help in the influence of the sunlight on the house throughout the day. Persons living in such a house will be optimistic and energetic. Besides the basic structure, the light and bright color on the walls and door panels help in mental happiness, which is possible during the periods of strong and well placed planets like Jupiter, Venus and Mercury. It will give a hygienic, clean and decorative outlook while the influence of Rahu may make the man dubious and deceptive in character. He may use dark colors on the walls, corners or candlelights. Saturn in its weak state makes the man feel insecure and he loses trust. As the person's stress is on savings in life, he/she uses dark shades on the walls and door panels to save money on maintenance and this creates a stuffy atmosphere.

The result of the maintenance and the shades on the walls and door frames/panels may be different. While the light and bright shades bring in prosperity and enlarge the social circle, dark and stuffy shades isolate the person from society and thrust upon him/her unstable and insecure attitudes in life.

For example, once a gentleman contacted us about the inordinate delay in finalization of the marriage of his daughter. The visit to their house showed that though the house was east-facing, its openings were on the north-east, north-west and west side and he was using a pretty dark blue shade on the walls of his drawing room and navy-blue paint on his door panels. Our suggestion for change of shades on the walls and the door panels helped in early settlement of the marriage of his daughter. In another case, a medico who had set up an ultrasound diagnostic center was not getting clients, resulting in a loss by way of expenses on the maintenance of fixed assets. During the course of a visit to the clinic, it was found that the desired space was not provided for in the waiting lounge and instead of the mercury tube-lights, the lighting was done with incandescent bulbs. The lighting arrangement with bulbs makes the atmosphere a little gloomy and one cannot tolerate this atmosphere while waiting. Slight modifications of space in the waiting lounge and provision of tube lights resulted in a growing clientele.

Role of Malefic Planets and the Lords of the Malefic Houses.

People seek help from the divine science of astrology when they are in suspense and distress and are hounded by uncertainties in life. Not only they want to know about the duration and the result of the uncertainty but also seek advice to redress their concern, as well. Help seekers are from all walks of life, crossing the bars of caste, creed and religion. Though the divine science was used by Indians since time immemorial, it is not concerned with Hinduism or for that matter with any other religion. As the Sun gives light and energy to one and all across the world so is its influence based on its position in the horoscope drawn for a person for the time of his/her birth.A man is troubled by ill health, insolvency, disputes, accidents, obstructions, hospitalization, punishment by the state, enmity, etc. We all know that these aspects are governed by the malefic houses, viz. the sixth, eighth and the twelfth houses. The results pertaining to these houses are felt during the sub-periods of the planets placed in these houses depending upon their respective strength and the lords of these houses causing close afflictions in the chart. Based on this simple technique, not only the divine science can foretell the incidence of the difficult times and the areas of difficulties but it can also suggest ways and means to reduce the impact of the difficulties to a large extent. The wisest creation of the God, the man, learnt to augment the potentialities in the chart. A happy and content man is an asset for the society as he can help people in distress during the spare time available with him. All planets placed in malefic houses show trouble to their significations in their operating sub-periods. The functional malefic lords cause trouble if they cause close afflictions in the chart and are weak. If the functional malefic lords are strong and do not cause close afflictions, then in their sub periods they bestow good results concerning the positive aspects of the house ruled by them. The two key areas for the analysis of the horoscopes are the functional nature of the planets in a particular nativity and the relationships developed by the planets with other planets and houses through conjunction/aspects/placements. While the placement of a planet affects the significations ruled by it, its impact on the house of its placement would be only applicable if it forms close conjunction/aspect with its most effective point. Any planet posited within 5 degrees (on either side) of the most effective point of any house would be making its significant impact on the said house, depending of course upon the strength and functional nature of the planet under consideration. This planet also fully influences the house(s) aspected by it.
The positive traits of the evil houses are as under:-
The Sixth HouseSound financial position, victory over enemies and no apprehension of losses through theft and fire.
The Eighth houseLong life, financial gains to the father, gains through inheritance, draw of lots and unearned wealth, continuity of marital tie, etc.
The Twelfth houseGood sleep, staying together with the spouse, gains from foreign lands, no apprehension of imprisonment and hospitalizations, comforts and luxurious life.
The positive traits of evil houses, which contain mooltrikona sign(s), fructify when their lords are strong, well-placed and unafflicted.
The subject is discussed further with case studies at my website.

SADE SATI OF SATURN

SADE SATI OF SATURN : TRADITIONAL THEORY
Saturn transits a sign in approximately two and a half years. Whenever Saturn enters the 12th house from the Moon of a particular native, he is said to have started having the period of Sade-Sati that is 7 and 1/2 years which Saturn will take in transiting 12th house, the Moon sign and the second house from the Moon sign. Malefically disposed Saturn to a chart until and unless under check by powerful trinal aspect from benefic Jupiter inflicts maximum pains/misfortunes to the native. Persons having their Moon signs lorded over by Saturn and Venus are, however, believed to be free from the results of Sade-Sati, provided the radical Saturn is strong.
SADE SATI OF SATURN : SYSTEMS APPROACH
The traditional theory of Sade-Sati of Saturn does not hold good. Saturn, when a functional benefic, does not cause harm while in any of the houses, during its transit. However, when in 6th, 8th or 12th houses to the natal ascendant, it fails to bestow significations ruled by it. When a functional malefic, it causes harm in all houses when coming into close conjunction/ aspects with natal position of planets.
However, the traditional theory does not hold good in the scientific study. This is, perhaps, the easiest way of convincing oneself that he has found out the reasons for sufferings of the persons coming for astrological advice. In fact we have to see the functional nature of Saturn with reference to the ascendant. If Saturn is a functional benefic, it would bestow good results while in the ascendant and the second house. While transiting twelfth house, such a benefic Saturn, and at the same time its sub-period being in operation, it will not produce bad results but its capacity to do good will be restricted due to weakness attained by transiting the twelfth house. Assessment of sub-periods of planets after due consideration to the strength of the planets in transit in relation to natal positions prove more meaningful.
As per the 'Systems Approach', Saturn is a functional benefic planet for Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittrius, Capricorn & Aquarius ascendants. Therefore, sade sati is not applicable for those who are born in these signs.
Saturn is a functional malefic for Virgo, Cancer and Pisces ascendants. For persons born in these three ascending signs the impact of Saturn during the course of Sade Sati is explained hereinafter. Therefore, the mal-effects of transiting Saturn are felt by the natives who have any of these signs as an ascendant. As already indicated, the results are only to be analyzed with reference to the ascendant. Moreover, unfavorable results are not felt throughout the period for seven and a half years when transit Saturn is in twelfth, first or second houses. The mal-effects would be felt only when it forms conjunction with the most effective points of the twelfth, first and second houses and when it forms exact/close conjunction/aspects, with weak natal planets. Barring the period of transit conjunctions/aspects, the rest of the period of seven and a half years would be as per the trends set by the main period lord, sub-period lords, the strength of sub-period lords and transit influence of other planets.
Under SA Saturn:
(i) while transitting the MEP of the twelfth house Saturn causes problems relating to disturbed peace, inflated expenses, loss of status and reputation, conflicts and controversies and causes a fortune setback.
(ii) while transitting the MEP of the first house it causes problems relating to natural calamities, public unrest, associates turning hostile and setbacks in professional/business ventures.
(iii) while transitting the MEP of the second house causes problems relating to loss of wealth, status and hormonious relationships, causes serious setbacks and curtails the incomes besides causing mental unrest.
Besides the above the tripple transit impact of Saturn during the course of the 7 and a half years causes setbacks/harm to the significations of the natal planets influenced.
SADE SATI OF SATURN - ASTRAL REMEDIES:
Propitiation: Giving food to beggers and poor people. Giving part of breakfast to the birds.Strengthening of Planets: Strengthening of weak functional benefic planets through a special power kavach cum gemstone pendant..

Kalsarpa Yoga

The Myth and Impact of Kalsarpa Yoga or Dosha in Astrology
What is a Yoga?
The planetary combinations (yogas) in a horoscope are generated through (i) close conjunctions & close aspects of two or more planets in a natal chart and placements of planet(s) in a particular house or within planets or within houses.
Auspicious Yogas/Rajyogas/Dhanayogas
When two or more strong functional benefic planets form close relationship among themselves or with the most effective points of benefic houses, they generate good results related to their mooltrikona houses.
The Impact of inauspicious Yoga in Astrology
When a yoga is formed due to close conjunction/aspect of two or more functional malefic planets it is known as an inauspicious yoga. If two functional malefic planets form a close relationship, they cause an inauspicious yoga and destroy the results related to their mooltrikona houses. If one functional benefic planet and one functional malefic planet form a close relationship, this causes an inauspicious yoga that destroys the results of the mooltrikona house ruled by the functional benefic planet. When a functional benefic planet occupies a malefic house, this causes yoga for misfortune related to the significations of its mooltrikona house. Similarly, when a functional malefic planet closely influences the most effective point of a house, it destroys the significations of that house and the houses aspected, except the house which is its own mooltrikona house.
The Impact of Yoga/Dhanyoga/Rajyoga in Astrology
The impact of Rajyogas and Dhanayogas accrues only if the planets involved are strong. Whenever, the planets ruling benefic houses conjoin or mutually aspect closely, they form good yoga (say Rajyogas) connected with the indications of both the houses involved, provided they are strong. The involvement of a planet ruling the house of income and/or wealth produces a Dhanayoga. In other words, mere location of a planet or a set of planets in a particular sign or house without creating a close relationship through a close conjunction or aspect does not result into any yoga.
"KAL SARPA OR KALSARPA YOGA or DOSHA"
When all the planets are hemmed between Rahu and Ketu, the Kal Sarpa Yoga is said to be formed as per the classical literature. Complete Kal Sarpa yoga is said to be formed only when half of the chart is unoccupied by planets. If even one planet is outside the Rahu and Ketu axis, there is no Kal Sarpa Yoga. The results of mishaps, obstructions, vulnerability to black magic type tricks, etc. are attributed to the Kaal Sarpa Yoga. Until and unless any functional malefic planet(s) forms a close conjunction or aspect with other planet(s) or house(s) they do not produce any Duryoga or even Kalsarpa yoga even if the technical planetary influences explained in the preceding paragraph are found in the natal horoscope. The misnomer "Kal Sarpa Yoga or Dosha" is being propagated by those persons who have failed to correctly identify the functional nature of planets in various nativities and have not been able to pin point the reasons for miseries. Any chart containing the so-called Kal Sarpa Yoga will not give bad results until and unless Rahu-Ketu or other functional malefic planets cause severe conjunctions or aspects with weak planets or houses in that particular nativity. Under the Systems' Approach, the analysis is always done with reference to the placement of planets, their strength and weaknesses and their mutual relationship with reference to the ascendant, and its most effective point in particular.

My journey in Astrology

Brief personal details: Born and brought up in Gurgaon, I did my Bachelor’s degree in arts from Punjab University and did my MBA from Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi (IGNOU). I have three brothers and three sisters. I am married to Chander Kiran Choudhry who has done Masters Degree in Sanskrit. I am blessed with a son, K Rajesh Chaudhary. Rajesh is a Fellow of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, an MBA from IGNOU and above all an author and astrologer. Rajesh is married to Tanisha and is blessed with a son (Vishnu Kant) and a daughter (Vrinda). I joined a spiritual organization in my childhood with my father at the age of 10 years. This organization aimed at preaching the teachings of Ramayana for peace, spiritual attainment and universal brotherhood.

Brief professional details before entering the field of Astrology. While working in an international marketing company in the public sector, I was posted to Calcutta for two years in 1983, where I entered in the field of astrology. I took voluntary retirement in 2001 to devote full time to teaching and practicing astrology. At the time of retirement I was working as a Chief Marketing Manager with bright future and eleven years before the retirement. After retirement revised editions for six books have already been released. Now, besides helping learners on SATVA101 & SAMVA Groups at Yahoo Groups, I practice as a professional astrologer.

How I came in contact with astrology: On 27th May, 1984, another gentleman, Mr. Gola from Delhi was posted to Calcutta who came to stay with me in transferee Managers’ accommodation. He was a palmist and was in the advanced stage of learning classical astrology. In the evening when Mr. Gola was taking a walk with me by the side of a lake he told me that he is an astrologer and not only he will read my chart but also teach me astrology. I told him that I had no interest in astrology and if at the time of the walk he should not talk on this subject. My impression of astrology was because of those astrologers who practice without a deep study and most of the time whose predictions will not come true. Time passed and in his company I slowly started to think that there may be some merit in this knowledge if it is studied thoroughly. I had a great interest in spiritual and good reading material besides visiting temples but not in astrology. I never told Mr. Gola that I was becoming interested in exploring learning of astrology. I had a great interest in spiritual and good reading material besides visiting temples but not in astrology. I never told Mr. Gola that I was interested to learn astrology. He was looking for assistance as the calculations in those days were very time consuming. There was no assistance of computers. He tried some persons but could not get a suitable person. On 1st January, 1985, he came to my office and handed me over a new diary for the year 1985. He asked me to write on the first page. I thought he is getting something written for his own use. Then after starting with recitation of mantra for Lord Ganesha he dictated me about rasis (zodiac sign), houses, planets and planetary periods (dasa). He told me that since I am involved in spiritual pursuits I should learn astrology, as well. This is a related field and will enable me to help numerous persons in life. So, the dictation was my first lesson for learning astrology. I accepted and started learning.

Early learning and practicing training: I started learning through the books on classical astrology available and I used to study for about 6 hours on weekdays and about 12 hours on Sundays and holidays. In six months I got good grasp of fundamentals, the predictive techniques through yogas and dasa results. In July, 1985, one gentleman Mr. Chatterjee came to our residence to meet Mr. Gola and Mr. Gola was not available. He asked me to read his chart and whether he will qualify as a chartered accountant in the examinations held in June. I told him that he will not qualify but he can qualify the next time if does some suggested astral remedies. Then he produced a written prediction of Mr. Gola that he will pass in the June examination and wanted to know my reply in the face of prediction by Mr. Gola. I said I stand by me prediction and shortly he will know the results. The difference in our predictions was due to the unclear principles of classical astrology. The gentleman failed in the exam. He passed the exam in the next attempt as predicted with the help of jyotish remedies. This exam is very difficult in India to qualify as Chartered Accountant. Even less than 1 in thousands will qualify. This Mr. Chatterjee visited me last Sunday (10th August, 2008) and refreshed the memories down the lane. So, I just thought of sharing the various milestones with readers. Thereafter Mr. Gola started involving me in all astrological consultations held by him in Calcutta. May be sometime I write details of Calcutta consultation in more detail. My interest for deep study of astrology impelled me to go into the classic studies of Parasara system, Kalidasa’s Uttarakalamrit, Jamini Sutras, Brihat Jatak, Phaladipika, etc. etc.

While back in Gurgaon in 1986, Dr. Mrs. Kaushalaya Batra, Gynecologist, showed deep interest in learning astrology. Teaching her brought rich experience for me case studies pertaining to chronic patients, retarded children and prime sterility.

Then in 1987 a friend introduced me to another classical astrologer, Mr. Gupta, who was residing near my residence in Gurgaon. Mr. Gupta brought to my notice the book, New Techniques of Predictions by Mr. Sheshadari from where I got a wider view of the Divisional charts. Because of the confusions, contradictions and inconsistencies in various classical principles many scholars were exploring various techniques. Besides Mr. Sheshadri I was introduced to the work of Mr. Krishnamurthy Mr. Gupta suggested me to write articles for astrological journals. Our co-written first article as a debate appeared in Astrological magazine around October, 1987.

In 1986, few months after me Mr. Gola also returned to Delhi and started teaching at Bhartia Vidya Bhavan n the classes organized by the Indian Council of Astrological Studies. He suggested me that I should write articles as I was raising thought provoking issues and was having a tremendous practical experience of giving astrological consultations.

Numerous articles were written by me for various astrological journals which were followed by my first book, How to Study Divisional Charts. Later he persuaded me to teach the subject of Divisional Charts at Bhartia Vidya Bhavan.

While teaching at Bhartia Vidya Bhavan I met Shri R. K. Chadha and his wife, Dr. (Mrs. Suman Chadha) who also had great interest in astrology. The proximity of our offices resulted into frequent meetings almost daily where Shri Chadha brought up problematic charts. The application of astral remedies for the persons coming for consultations specially through Dr. Mrs. Chadha, Dr. Mrs. Batra and Shri Chadha and their feedback later became the real backbone for the SA remedial measures of astrology.

In 1990 ICAS started holding weekly consultations clinics in Delhi. Participation in the consultations brought me in contact with another person, Shri Kumar Jhuraney, who was deeply interested in the astral remedies.

The readers gave warm response to the book How to Study Divisional and I started receiving communications from all over the English speaking countries of the world. This interaction brought the queries of the learners and astrologers regarding the existing missing links, controversies, confusions about conjunctions, combustion, sade sati, manglik dosha, etc. etc. and the functional nature of planets. Studying astrology and trying to share knowledge with those interested became my passion. The study of case studies brought up helped my learning further which eventually resulted into developing the Systems'Approach (SA) and publication of the ten books. The books are continuous updated for keeping those following SA for updating their predicting skills. At one stage one astrologer told me that by educating others I create competitors for myself. My reply was that there are so many sufferers in the world that I alone would never be able to offer personal service to many. So, I developed Self Learning Course in Astrology as a distant learning programme.

In 1996 Mr. Prafulla Gang and Mr. Sharma presented salient features of Systems’Approach on Jyotish list. Many persons took keen interest and started following SA. At Jyotish list I developed close association with Mr. David Hawthorne, Mr. Thor, Ms Mary Ann Cooke, Mr. Sateesh Batas, Mr. Brian Conrad, Ms Sandy Crowther and many others. Thereafter a separate group for SA studies was set up. Later to further the cause of predictive astrology the International Institute of Predictive Astrology (IIPA) was established. The first International Conference of IIPA members in September, 1999, in Fairfield, USA. The software Jyotish Tools by Mr. Brian Conrad became integral part of learning SA astrology. SA is discussed at SATVA101 and SAMVA at Yahoo Groups.

At SATVA101 and SAMVA groups many more people came into contact. Noteworthy of these are Dr. Jonathan Miller, Mr. Jo Cohen, Mr. Satya Gopal Kalluri, Mr. Nicholas Charles Francis, Mr. Remi Penniset, Mr. Ravinder Chunodkar, Mr. Francis de Cruz, Mr. Piotr Tomiac, Mr. Jorge Angelino, Ms Francesca Ates, Dr. Shyan Smith, Ms Branka Bjelajac, Mr. Amit Patnaik, Mr. Jean Bianchi and Mr. Vaidun Vidyadhar.

Between 1989 to 1996 my work was recognized by various astrological organizations in India including Indian Council of Astrological Sciences - ICAS, Madras, India, Bharat Nirman, Astro Sciences Research Organization, New Delhi, International Council of Astrological and Occult Studies, Hyderabad, the International Institute of Astrology & Occultism, New Delhi, The Board of Directors of International Council of Alternative Medicines conferred the degree of Doctor of Alternative Medical Sciences. International Foundation of Peace, Fraternity and Humanistics, Bombay, conferred the title of Dharam Yogi in 1995. International Council of Astrological Sciences, Bombay, conferred the title of Vastu Shastra Samrat in 1996, and Bhartiya Ved Jyotish Vigyan Sansthan, Modinagar (India), conferred the title of Sthapatya Ratna in 1996, for valuable contributions in the fields of Astrology and Vastu Shastra. In 1999 I participated in astrological conferences in London, Paris and U.S.A.

In quest of learning further, my visits to Sagar Publications increased in search of new books. During the course of visits, I had chances to meet many new astrologers, authors, editors, members of Management Committee of the Indian Council of Astrological Sciences, etc. To my astonishment most of the people who had spent years, were authors and experienced astrologers, were still plagued by confusions regarding functional nature of planets, combustion of planets, retrograde planets, conjunctions of planets, etc. etc. Most of the astrologers will immediately take out their own horoscopes for clarifications. Many of the authors and astrologers came to learn astrology after they had serious problems in their relationships and professional affairs.I started writing case studies where the astral remedies had shown improvements for the astrological journals like AM, TOA, Planets and Forecast, Jyotish Times and Babaji. Some of the journals were trying to project their superior image while they were publishing useless articles. I dared to send comments on the superficial and manipulative articles to the editors of such journals. My deep interest and study started showing results and the first spark was deciding the functional nature on the basis of the mooltrikona signs. The discussions were carried further through the articles.

The publications of articles paved the way for the books and the first phase of the Systems'Approach was published in the form of the book, Systems'Approach for Interpreting Horoscopes. The acceptance of SA principles started threatening the existing authors, editors of journals and their supporters. So much so, some of the authors and teachers started advising their students that they should not read the books published by Sagar Publications and in particular by V. K. Choudhry. But when the Sun rises nobody can stop the light.

One of the teachers wrote in one of the astrological journals that one of the modern authors had been the best teacher in the last 400 years. It was around February, 1995. I took the cue. I wrote back that what to talk of this author's being the best teacher, he even did not understand astrology. He only published translations and contributed through publications and making the literature available to the people who wanted to learn astrology. And see, what is the irony of fate. The same person today does not spare the person of the criticism to whom he considered the best teacher in the last 400 years in 1995. Some of the astrological journals failed and in some cases the publications have either been stopped or sold because of the lack of reliable content and predictive methodologies. One of the editors died in young age and could not plan even for his own family. Professional jealousies and ego of people comes in the way of acceptance of the views of others. So, to bring a change in established fields is not an easy job. But I did not stop and started demolishing wrong notions of classical astrology one by one through articles and case studies. People, who had open mind to the rhyme and reason, read my work and appreciated. Their feedback gave me tremendous encouragement to bring the SA to the current level. There are some persons who only criticize others in their quest to sell their own books/publications. They have made no contributions by guiding people on the internet. Rather they used the opportunity of internet and Groups to gather information for their own publications. The Groups having such people as their guide, could not survive. I do not name people as this is not my aim. My aim is to present to people the principles that work. My aim is to help the learners in learning. So, at SATVA101 at Yahoogroups almost all the queries of the learners are personally answered by me round the clock. I am happy to note that those who are deeply interested in learning astrology are very intelligent and they are able to see the real worth of the books and publications available in the market.

Jyotish Remedies - Graha Shanti Measures

http://www.yournetastrologer.com/

JYOTISH REMEDIES : We all know that the full Moon with the entire starry host and even with all the mountains set on fire cannot fight the darkness of the night. Only the rise of the Sun can bring the night darkness to an end. Similarly, the planetary weaknesses and afflictions can only be reduced to a large extent or even removed with the help of the propitiatory and strengthening astrological remedial measures.

JYOTISH REMEDIES - APPLICATION:
The divine science of Vedic Astrology unfolds the trends of life and tells us in advance of the favorable times as well as of the unfavorable times. It tells us about the periods which provide success to our endeavors. Similarly, it tells us the periods and the types of sufferings one is likely to face, right at birth. There are diverse views about the sanctity of remedial measures. Some of the learned friends opine that no benefit is derived by the performance of remedial measures. While some others opine that the performance of remedial measure produces good results. The experience of the author, however, is that the performance of remedial measures does help. The birth chart indicates competence of performance of remedial measures for warding off the evil/malefic influences. The success in deriving benefic influences and warding off of evil/malefic influences by performing remedial measures depends on more than one factor. Firstly, one has to correctly find out the significator(s) which is/are afflicted or weak; secondly, selection of remedial measures for propitiating the afflicting planets and/or strengthening of weak planets; and thirdly, selecting appropriate time for initiating remedial measures. In the case of the houses which are weak and afflicted and are not aspected by a strong functional benefic planet, the chances of effectiveness of remedial measures are comparatively weak. A strong Jupiter or a strong Sun or strong planet acting like a Sun or a strong lord of the ninth house in the nativity is indicative of performance of astral remedies and benefits there from. The success also depends on the right conduct of both the astrologer advising these remedial measures and the person seeking consultation.

JYOTISH REMEDIES RELEVANCE :
When we read through the narration of Maharishi Parashara that the God has incarnated in the form of planets to confer on the living beings the results of their karma, we are confronted with the question of relevance of remedial measures to ward off the evil effects caused by the natal placement of planets on the basis of past karma. We find the mention of remedial measures for mitigating evils of inauspicious planetary combination in one's chart are found in our scriptures as well as in the ancient astrological texts and commentaries including Brihat Parashara Hora. Their history can be traced to times immemorial. Prasna Marga links the miseries/evils in one's life to the sins/bad deeds committed in the past/present life.In Ramcharitmanas, Sant Tulsidas says that the evils cannot be fully mitigated by donations, reciting of mantras, yagnas, etc. without the righteous conduct, which clearly indicates that before his time there used to be remedial measures in practice and that the right conduct is also an important element of the effectiveness of remedial measures. In his great work, he gives us clues on how to avoid evils. 'Attachment' is the cause of all sufferings. One cannot enjoy happiness so long as one does not attain contentment. In Kaliyuga, he mentioned mere devotion to the God helps in mitigating evils. He goes further and says that evils can only be destroyed by the grace of God. In Vedic Astrology we understand the phenomenon of the God's grace coming through a strong Jupiter and/or a strong lord of the ninth house in the natal chart. As per Varahamihira, the evils can be removed by worship of learned persons, palliatives offered to planets, recitation of mantras, dana (donations), company of saintly persons, etc. Valmiki Rishi in his Ramayana also mentions a number of remedial measures.

JYOTISH REMEDIES - ROLE IN ASTRAL REMEDIES:
The role of remedial measures in Vedic Astrology is supreme. The indication of Vedic Astrology can be of use only if the unfavorable influences can be averted by remedial measures and the favorable influences can be enhanced. The remedial measures are prescribed for all the horoscopes interpreted by us and have been found to be useful to such an extent that the natives, who had planetary configurations for the dreaded diseases like cancer, could avoid these during the indicating sub-periods of planets creating such afflictions.

JYOTISH REMEDIES - EFFECTIVENESS:
Effective sets of Jyotish remedies in the form of easy propitiatory jyotish remedies and effective jyotish remedies through the application of Kavach or Special Power Kavach as per the requirement of one's horoscope, have been developed after empirical studies for various ascending signs, and are applied for warding off the evils and generating good results in life.

WHEN TO GO FOR REMEDIAL MEASURES? JYOTISH REMEDIES - FAQs:
One of the frequently asked questions is what should be the timing of application of Jyotish remedies. Prevention is better than cure; this saying is also true in case of application of Jyotish remedies. No doubt, Jyotish remedies are helpful in a problematic situation but if the native goes for preventive application, it not only proves to be a better tool to tackle various circumstances but also reduces the level of problems to a great extent. The problems are reduced to the level of tension and the potential damage is averted. In many cases we have found that their preventive application has averted dreaded diseases including cancer even when strong combinations for such diseases were present in the horoscope of the person.

ANALYSING CAPABILITY OF PLANET TO BLESS WITH THEIR SIGNIFICATIONS
Both the positions - natal and transit - of the planet under impact are to be studied for identifying their strengths. The planets would be able to bless the native with their significations, both general and particular, if they are strong both in the natal chart and in transit.Any planet has capacity to bless the native with its results if its natal strength is at least 60% and it is unafflicted. In such a situation the results may come with some delay and of slightly lower order. With the help of the strengthening measures -gemstones or Kavach - the strength of the planets, where it is less than 60%, can be brought to the level of 60% so that it blesses the native with the significations ruled by it. One can (i) strengthen the weak planets by way of a Kavach if the planetary strength is between 50% to 60%; (ii) strengthen the weak planets by way of a special power kavach if the planetary strength is between 35% to 50%; and (iii) strengthen the weak planets by way of a special power kavach cum gemstone pendant if the planetary strength is lower than 35%.
